NIHR Medtech and In Vitro Diagnostic Co-operatives (MICs) build expertise and capacity in the NHS to develop new medical technologies and provide evidence on commercially-supplied in vitro diagnostic (IVD) tests. Leading NHS organisations act as centres of expertise, bringing together patients, clinicians, researchers, commissioners and industry. For details on the other MICs, please visit the NIHR website.
The NIHR Leeds In Vitro Diagnostics Co-operative is a partnership between the Leeds Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust and the University of Leeds.
We have been set up to add value to the transit of in vitro diagnostic tests (IVDs) through to patient benefit and the commercial market pace. We do this by:
- Acting as a catalyst for the generation of high quality evidence of clinical validity, clinical utility, cost effectiveness and care pathway benefits of commercially-supplied IVDs.
- Enabling collaboration between industry, clinicians and other healthcare professionals, patients, NHS pathology services, NHS commissioners, academic researchers including health economists and patient groups.
- Creating new, world class methodologies for IVD assessment.
- Working with patients to shape our strategies, identify new opportunities and address current needs.
